Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who jumped a fence and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another response on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, earning two for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
