Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Wins Contest
Even with registering nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
Despite their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach stated following the contest.
