NBA game action

Miami recorded 86 opening half points versus the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat earned a crushing 146 to 114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial basketball game after guard Rozier was arrested over suspected unlawful gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested in connection with a sweeping federal probe into illegal gambling. Both men deny the claims.

However, the Miami team were focused as they put up 86 first-half scores to be ahead of the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year existence.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Full support," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is important to everyone. He's had a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he goes through this."

The Trail Blazers also secured their first game since the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's absence and leading the team to a decisive 139 to 119 victory over the Warriors.

"We all had positive times with Billups and how he coached," Tiago said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' by Recent Events

Speaking about the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

Silver further mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Hornets against the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an charge.

"And two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in fairness to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
