Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
