Parachuting Trainer Dies Following Plummeting Lacking Parachute in Nashville
Federal aviation authorities is looking into the death of a skydiving instructor after he got detached from his client during a dive in Nashville, Tennessee.
Authorities report instructor the instructor "appears to have fallen from the sky without a safety chute" during the dive on the weekend.
The instructor, 35, seems to have separated from his client and a tandem rig, which links the two during a dive and includes the safety gear.
A police helicopter found the instructor's remains in a wooded area some time after. Local emergency crews utilized multiple pieces of equipment to access the middle-aged student who survived the fall after being stuck on a tree for hours with the emergency parachute.
Police said several additional jumps, which took place near a local airport, were successfully completed before the fatal fall. Aircraft from which they leaped also landed safely.
It is unclear how Mr Fuller, an seasoned parachutist, became separated from the protective gear.
A individual who assisted fire crews in the operation informed a local television station the client who officials saved said "he was a first-time jumper, and it was going to be his final one".
Mr Fuller had previously posted about his enthusiasm for instructing people how to skydive.
"Instructing individuals to parachute has consistently been in my view the most rewarding role at the jump site," Mr Fuller said in an social media update in June.
"Watching them learn the skills and start flying their bodies is always a touching moment. Sometimes though, it can get a little hectic up there when you let someone go for their initial attempt."
During that period he shared images of the wreckage a skydiving plane he was on noting the aircraft's motor had malfunctioned after departure. Every individual onboard survived.
