The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, praising him for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect for the team. The forward lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Impossible.”
