Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an official release.
Initial offerings will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.
Delving Into The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this setting, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, turning the city into a battlefield. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. This is where the agents come in.
Development on the RPG has been in progress for about three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider audience, particularly in North America. Manufacturing will start right after the campaign, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the system confirms it employs d10s exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and tactical approach. Players leverage abilities to roll small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, players select a single “result die” from the group.
- This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a natural 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Battles stress placement and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward teamwork and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.
A Thematic Health Mechanic
The way health is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a injury limit; taking heavy hits weakens their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an agent collapses, but is not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, risking persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group lead the hunt for a missing medical team and work to stop an assault by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
