Trump Invites Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Policy Revisions
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and halt providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
